I am so excited to start my business again but this time in my forever place, in my forever home with my forever people.
Now, nearly 20 years on, my passion for upholstery continues to grow. Equally my passion to retain my honest and highest working standards and attitude to all my clients and to those I teach.
But Let me go back to how it all began…
Originally from Ireland, I moved to Scotland after high school to study Interior Design. From my passion for art and design, grew a new passion for chairs and their history.
It quickly became obvious to me that I needed to explore this further. After college I embarked on my upholstery journey. Little did I know however, that this next step would shape me into the woman and tradesperson I am today.
Peter at BeSeated took me under his wing and thought me everything he knows from his decades in the upholstery trade. Not only did Peter become my mentor, but he also became a great friend that I still aspire to. I am so grateful to have learned from such an expert and perfectionist! I learned the importance of honest restoration work, attention to detail, not cutting corners and being respectful to each individual piece I work on.
Every chair in our homes has its own story. Often the chair we look to have restored belonged to a loved one or has a quirky story of how it was found on the side of a road. This to me, carries more weight than the era it’s from, encouraging me to always keep my standards high.
My trade has allowed me to live, work and teach in Australia and Ireland. These experiences has thought me that I am always learning!
Perth Western Australia, is when I 1st started my upholstery business. Here, I also thought upholstery at Perth Wood School and ran private one to one lessons in my workshop.
After 6 unforgettable years, we moved back to Ireland, where I continued on my upholstery business. But another 6 years later, I found myself longing to be back on Scottish soil. It’s taken a couple of years for us as a family to finally feel settled and now that we are, it’s time for me to reopen My Chair Lady.
My inbox is always open. I am always happy to give free advice and help people when buying new and old chairs and what work may be involved.
